The Auckland half and full marathons are unique, from the undulating first 8km through to the flat second half for the marathon. Historically the course has been challenging while incredibly rewarding. 

With this program you will get the best preparation possible, from understanding the weather on the day, taking on the first 8km of hills and of course the famous bridge crossing. For marathon runners your challenge lies on the water front and understanding/breaking down your first and second half.

With 12 years experience, Gaz and his coaches bring you valuable race tips, training preparation and guidance along the way.

NEW YORK Marathon time specific program

New York Marathon is a very specific course, challenging yet rewarding while throwing a few curve balls along the way. With this program it allows you to go into New York prepared along with taking things into account like the surface/temperatures and conditions on the day, plus allow for the variation of race time compared to running a marathon on your home soil. 

With 12 years experience and having been to New York Marathon 6 times + raced it twice; Gaz brings you his insight and wisdom to this amazing race with tips & tricks giving you the best possible preparation.

Coaching

We use online Training Peaks software  allowing direct and focused feedback on how your running is progressing. We prefer to work with Garmin running technology (though we still work with other GPS watches... just ask), which allows direct syncing of data and instant feedback. Above all, we make everything simple, easy and digestible. Leave the science up to us; all you need to do is turn up. We have the facilities and technology right here at the GetRunning Studio!

Initial Consultation and Registration

This is where we gain a complete overview of your running. We go into your history, current training, lifestyle and your own personal running goals. Leave with a plan of attack and thorough understanding of how to get to your full potential.

Areas of focus in your first session:

  • Running history and current training analysis
  • Program structure and plan of attack
  • Training Peaks account set up and program
  • Heart-rate monitor connectivity

Over time we work with you to give you an understanding of periodic training, macro/micro cycles that specifically relate to you and your running needs. Together we work out your heart rate and pacing structure, building better tools and allowing you to make informed decisions on your running inspirations. If you're a busy individual juggling everything from work, social life, friends, and family... then this is the way to train!  

1hr-1hr15min in studio - Cost $150.00

For those out of town... this is fine to take place over the phone.

Monthly Coaching

Every three-four weeks you will be contacted via phone/email or come into the studio to discuss your progress; how you are handling the training and where to next. You then get another four weeks of program to tackle with a thorough understanding of stress adaption and heart rate monitoring.

During the four weeks between programs you have unlimited access and support to your coach via email or phone.

  • Yearly planning (periodisation)

I just wanted to email you to let you know what a fabulous trip the Hawkes Bay Tour was.
I loved staying at Te Pania - it was so relaxing and so clean and tidy. Being so busy with school and being a mum just walking into that room took my breath away. I really enjoyed my little haven/retreat.

I loved the way you took care of our breakfasts each day and made sure the van was ready to pick us up and take us to the main house. Your attention to detail was amazing. The food was fabulous - so delicious - every meal lovely.

What I loved the most of all (i know so much love) was the support of the GetRunning group. I always knew they were a good group but my goodness the support I received at the end of the finish line was just amazing. It blew me away - I was just overwhelmed by the kindness of those who already ran - they could have all gone back and relaxed but no they were all out at the finish line waiting and cheering. That will stay with me forever.

The entire weekend was outstanding and will be one I will remember for a while. I really like this group and the friends I have made.

I have really enjoyed all of the GR tours I’ve been on – sure, they give you a (mild) focus to your training, and take you to exotic places you might not otherwise go to ( a classic case in point being Chicago for me – what a city, and what a marathon) – and I suppose there’s a run involved and everything, but the best bit is the people, and what (usually) comes next.

The GR tours tend to be a pretension free zone, with lots of like-minded individuals fairly keen to have a good time ( so far on my GR travels, I’ve dressed as a Beatle ( Sargent Pepper era) in Taupo, engaged in a bit of a spot of speed cross dressing in Keri Keri……and stayed orthodox in Chicago - albeit that we almost sent two of colleagues to certain death in the South side of Chicago).

To be frank, my experience has been that not everything is strictly athletic. There is an inordinate amount of focus on eating and drinking - and not much distinction is drawn between pre race and post-race activities. No one is there to set age group records, and it shows.

The older I get ( I’m actually still very young) the more I value life experiences, over the other so called baubles of modern life. The great times I have had on these trips are memories that are important to me – and the master plan is to keep adding to them, until the day I cant.

Oh, and Gareth is always a wonderful tour guide. Even if he loses jackets, occasionally.

Imagine turning around and having the majestic Arch de Triumphe behind you as you line up at the start of your next marathon. They say Paris is the city of love but if you love running then this is the place to be - on a GetRunning tour.

The course, the supporters, the wonderful entertainment (and of course the GetRunning supporters en route) make this event one not to be missed. You actually need to pinch yourself as you run along the Seine with the mighty Eiffel tower standing tall and proud beside you

As we weaved our way through the Paris streets, past wonderful historic monuments, museums, parks and, attractions it was hard not to enjoy it. This marathon was one that I really looked forward to and consequently, I enjoyed every step of it. It was great to have such a wonderful supportive crowd along the way and extra special when you spotted the GetRunning team and the NZ flag.

Before we knew it it was over and the finish line was in sight. A mission achieved and I would do it again in a heartbeat!! It was wonderful to get back to the hotel with Gaz, and our supporters there to welcome us home. And yes, we did celebrate with bubbles, we were of course in PARIS!

I have been on many half Marathon and full Marathon GR tours, both international and local, and I can truly say they are very special events. They have made a big impact on my life and have become much looked forward to adventures that pull me out of the daily grind and treadmill of life. They are my escape and are good for my health (mostly).

I’m not sure what makes the events special but they are. If you are going on just one, or many, you will look back with a fondness on a ‘high five’ time in your life no matter what personality type you are. People just seem to mix and it doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from, or how much money you have in the bank, you will quickly find a friend or a group of willing NBF’s. Above all though you are all just social runners and GetRunning seems to be able to have a special mix of style, organisation and management that quickly bonds the participants.

And of course there is always the running; yep you have to do that bit too but you will find enormous support for you before, during and after the event irrespective if you are the fastest runner or the slowest runner, its your first time or one of many times, nobody cares, they are just so supportive of you crossing that finish line that you will quickly relax and enjoy the experience.

So have a go at one and enjoy like my family and I have done.

Race/Time Specific Program Terms & Conditions

  • When joining GetRunning race/time specific programs, you will need to sign up onto our Gym Master software system which allows you to set up your direct debit.
  • Program payments are paid month by month in advance.
  • Once your payment direct debit is set up, you will be sent a logon form for training peaks loaded with your race/time specific program.
  • The race specific/time programs are designed for those that just want the program and no personal coaching guidance along the way. While the coach is not available, there will be monthly group communication. 
  • Please note we release your program in 4 week increments along with training and race tips
  • We require a minimum of 12 weeks sign up from start date.
  • After 12 weeks, you will automatically roll over to the next 12 week race/time specific program and we will notify you with program options.
  • If you wish to cancel the program after 3 months we require emailed notice of cancellation
  • While we do our utmost best to ensure the programs provided will help you succeed in your chosen goal time, GetRunning cannot be held liable in any way if your goal time is not meet on race day. 
  • At cancellation you will no longer have access to future race specific programs, but you can still access and use your training peaks account.
